Hey guys, I'm doing a report on the fall of the Roman Empire. Any ideas? TEEBNEEN Rex, you should discuss the Fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476. Centuries of economic, political, and religious factors lead to the West's territories being gradually conquered by barbarian invaders. Rome's fall plunged Europe into the centuries-long Dark Ages, and the city's population wouldn’t recover until the 20th century. Definitely cover the Fall of Constantinople in 1453, Basileus. Since the Byzantine Empire was the successor to Rome and carried on Rome's culture and traditions, Constantinople's defeat to the Ottoman Turks was the official end to the thousand-year-old Roman Empire. It also coincided with the beginning of the Early Modern Period and the Age of Discovery. I would argue, King, that the Roman Empire never truly fell. Its culture, system of government, religion, architecture, etc. still survive in many Western nations today. Hell, 70% of the world's population uses the Latin alphabet in their language! The idea of Rome transcends the empire itself.
