Lucas was very flawed, and the prequels have a ton of problems, but there was still a clear vision going on. The man had a story he wanted to tell, but just told it poorly. And it's not exactly a secret that he just had too much power and not enough people reigning him in and offering their own ideas.
Compare it to the sequels that either try and ride the coattails of the previous movies, are unable to remain consistent within their own movies (much less the trilogy as a whole), try desperately to prop up their shitty fanfiction, and resort to tearing apart the very same movies they try to ape from in the process.
It's such a mess and it's very clear that no one in charge gave a fuck about the franchise. Disney just wanted to make money, JJ and Rian just wanted to push up their own careers, and Kennedy just wanted to force her agenda bullshit in. It's honestly the most baffling fuckups in the history of cinema. That you could fail so hard at making a Star Wars movie of all things, especially when Disney already had Marvel going strong for so many years.
