The [_Commodore Vanderbilt_] was a streamlined version of the venerable Class J1-E 4-6-4 Hudson locomotive that ran on the New York Central System.

The first of its kind to be modified for streamlining on the New York Central, it was christened in 1934 and pulled the [_Empire State Express_] for the duration of its career. Two more locomotives were streamlined in its pattern, designed by Karl F. Cantola. Later streamlined engines on the system would take after the pattern designed by Henry Dreyfuss.

Sadly, none of the Hudsons survive today. All were scrapped by 1954

Võ An Khánh was born in 1936, in the village of Ninh Quới in Hồng Dân District, Bạc Liêu Province, south-western Vietnam. During the 1960s and early 1970s, he traveled with a guerrilla unit to document the front line of the Vietnamese resistance against the U.S. in the Cà Mau region. He also managed the Photography Department of the local revolutionary cause and documented events related to frontline music and dance events. Between the years 1962 and 1975, Võ An Khánh staged a photographic exhibition in the exceptionally challenging condition of mangrove forests. His two well-known photographs, ‘Mobile Military Medical Clinic’ and ‘Extra-curriculum Political Science Class,’ were included in this traveling show, which Võ An Khánh himself developed on the spot using natural light.

Võ An Khánh’s photographs have been included in the exhibition “Another Vietnam: Pictures of the War from the Other Side” in 2002 (co-organized by the International Centre for Photography, New York) and various other international and local exhibitions and publications.

French Makeshift Gas Masks, Second Battle of Ypres, 1915

<a href="https://www.britannica.com/event/Second-Battle-of-Ypres">The Second Battle of Ypres</a> was the first time mass gas attacks were carried out during the First World War, where the Germans unleashed Chlorine Gas against French positions.

The only hope for a person caught in one of these early gas attacks was to tie a piss-soaked rag to their mouths and cover their eyes as they retreated to avoid being blinded by the gas. After this, many different versions of mask were tried before each country created what we would term a "modern Gas Mask" during mid-1916.

British troops assaulting German Positions, allegedly at the Somme, although could be Battle of Loos (See Notes)

So, you may all be wondering why these British Troops are all in blue instead of the usual khaki.

I've been trying to work this out for the last hour or so and I've come up with two possibilities:

1. This image has been mislabelled and actually took place in the Battle of Loos, where members of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitchener%27s_Army">the New Army</a> had to where blue uniforms due to a shortage of khaki dye.

2. They were a detachment of Royal Navy Marines which fought in <a href="https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/news-and-latest-activity/news/2016/november/14/161114-somme">the closing days of the battle</a>.

So whilst carrying out research on some of the other images, I found out that this image is actually from a film shot in 1928, where veterans of the battle carried out a re-enactment of the battle of Verdun on the original fields and forts where the real battle took place.
