This may have serious consequences for the future, the original "banana" was the Gros Michel – also a seedless clone, it was wiped out by Panama Disease in the 1950s. The larger, less-sweet Cavendish was then brought forward as a market replacement. This is why banana flavoring doesn't taste like bananas, because it tastes like a Gros Michel. The Gros Michel has a very slippery peel, unlike the Cavendish; thus this slapstick meme is also an artifact of the Gros Michel era. Unfortunately, there is a significant chance that the Cavendish may suffer the Gros Michel's fate in the future.

Also clones: apples. Apples have about twice as many genes as humans do and they are impossible to breed. Every apple variety you've seen is a unique mutation that cannot be replicated other than by grafting donor branches of mutant trees onto common crab apple trees.
