People question the morality of piracy, but rarely do I hear discussions on the morality of permanently removing games from stores.

Copyright should have a "use it or lose it" provision. If you remove a title from circulation for more than two years, it automatically lapses into the public domain. And to prevent "stick in on digital for one day" loopholes, the title must remain widely available for at least one year after the initiation of re-publication. If that's not possible (rights issues, etc.), oh well. Straight to the public domain.
