So about about 600 Imperial Japanese soldiers chose to join and fight for the Vietminh after WW2, with about half of them dying in the fight against the French.

They were then all forcibly repatriated back to Japan when the Americans took over as the main belligerent, as Japan was America's ally, which saw hundreds of families being torn apart; as they were not allowed to go with them.

The Japanese Conscripts were taken by the British from Japanese POWs to stabilise and bring order to the region until the French could take back control.
