Context/idea behind the art:

Thinking about it, a Phoenix represents life and immortality. While a shinigami brings death. Conceptually, both are polar opposites.

Yet without death, there is no glory to immorality. You can't fathom the value of life without death. At the same time, death would be meaningless without life. You can not end something that doesn't exist, after all.

So Calli and Kiara, both are compatible yet extremely incompatible (lore-wise) at the same time. Which makes their friendship even more beautiful.

However, life and death can not meet and coexist at the same time. One has to end. Which is why the separation.

But… A Phoenix still dies and turns into ashes before resurrecting. Perhaps that is the only moment where they can meet together. (Hey, another fanart idea!)

So… Yeah. Am I overthinking? Maybe. Do I like this lore? Yes.
