Sadly yeah apparently a decent amount of mainland China is still racist towards anyone with "dark" skin, but Disney is very at fault for pandering to racists in China. John Boyega as a whole was done dirty by Disney.

I think Finn is the biggest example of wasted potential in the sequels. He's portrayed by a great actor and the TFA did a decent job of setting up his character arc only for every subsequent movie to shove him further into the corner.
