Overview

The Not Laughing Cow or The Laughing Cow Stopped Laughing refers to The Laughing Cow brand of cheese (Babybel) changing its logo from the iconic laughing red cow to a serious, frowning version of the cow. The Laughing Cow changed its logo in late September 2026, announcing the change with a series of posts and advertisements in a viral marketing stunt.

The company did not immediately explain why it made the cow stop laughing, writing on its website, "After more than 100 years, The Laughing Cow has stopped laughing. We need to talk." The website handle was also changed to "The Not Laughing Cow." The logo change subsequently inspired reactions and memes online, including jokes about why the cow might have stopped laughing.

Later in September, it was revealed that the Laughing Cow stopped laughing because she was tired of people arguing over unimportant issues, which she called "wedge" issues, comparing wedge issues to the wedge shape of Laughing Cow cheese.

Background

On September 22nd, 2026, The Laughing Cow announced that it changed its logo, which shows a red laughing cow, to a frowning cow.

That day, the company posted two videos on social media, including TikTok.[1][2] The first video shows the cow sitting in a restaurant, sad. She wears earrings with the new logo on them. The caption claims that this is the first time in 100 years of the company that the cow has not been depicted laughing. The second shows the cow swinging sadly.

The website was also updated to share the videos and include a page leading to the videos. No explanation was given as to why the cow stopped laughing.[3]

Developments

On September 30th, 2026, the Not Laughing Cow social media pages, including TikTok,[10] posted a video explaining that the Laughing Cow stopped laughing because everyone takes every little thing too seriously. The video calls these "wedge issues," making a comparison to the wedge shape of The Laughing Cow cheese.
