THE UNNECESSARILY LONG AND TIRING VERSION TIMELINE OF N64 MARIO (Before you model him you must know his many forms) Reib/Hayley06 10/7/2022 VO/EARLY N64/PRE64 MARIO: EARLY 1996(?) Nintendo Please note that this site contain Japanese texts only BEDE OPCIO (Earlier N64 Mario) (Early N64 Mario) First dubbed "Pre64 Mario" by Twitter user and R96 member JY back in 2020, these two versions of N64 Mario came before the launch of the Nintendo 64, and would later turn into the model we've come to love. The face of Earlier N64 Mario is closer to the 2D Art of the time rather than the final model, however, the body for the most part looks like the final, albeit in a darker blue. ? intend The floating Mario head on the title screen for Super Mario 64, dubbed Goddard after the person who programmed it in, may have been modeled after this version. M Version Timeline 1996 T Early N64 Mario is where the model started looking closer to the final promo model; the hands are the same as V1's, the body is almost the same (minus the straps). Then there's his head, which looks like a weird mashup of the previous version and the final one. For some reason his irises have more detail than the final? O intend 303 ? V1: Early 1996/1996 (Super Mario 64) (Early V1) Two main revisions: Early V1 and Late V1. Early V1 has a orange specular and interesting quirks, while Late V1 removed them and has a different skin material. The two oldest known renders of V1 (Early EARLY V1) as we know of today are the "Fanta" and Looking Up render. Mario's head was significantly larger in both and was never that big ever again. Early V1's head had a rigging error where if he looked to the side, his ears rotated and clipped into the head, seen in the "Fanta" and infamous "Minestrone" render. Early (Late V1) Late Early V1 saw the return of the pointy fingers from Pre64 Mario, which would later go away with the remodeling of the hands seen in the jumping render. V1's stache was flat and sharp from both the front and sides, and curved up a lot. It was also extremely glossy. Earlier N64 Mario Early N64 Mario The first N64 Mario renders Early V1 Early V1 and Late V1 shared the same orange specular, with the exception being the ground pound render for some reason. M Hands Remodeled Late V1 V2: 1996 (Super Mario 64) M #f (V2) (Late V2) V2 saw one of the most major changes to Mario so far; his moustache. His moustache was completely changed, becoming rounder, thicker, and curving up less. His skin also became extremely yellow, for some reason. For some reason, in a lot of V2 renders, Mario's irises became extremely cyan. This would not carry over to the next version. Cyan Eyes er Normal V2 Eyes Later on, Mario's skin mat was changed - probably sometime during the punching render - to be less yellow and more of a tan. The cap and shirt specular also changed as well, which would carry over to... M V3: 1996-2001 (Super Mario 64 - Mario Kart: Super Circuit) (M) The final version of N64 Mario. (V3) This version would be used in promotion for every N64 Mario game moving forward, even being used in commercials for Mario Party 3 and Paper Mario, up until Mario Kart: Super Circuit in 2001 on the Gameboy Advance, almost used in Mario Party 4 with the final new render made with the model being him standing. Older renders would make some appearances in magazine ads well into the Gamecube era, though. MKA-01 The biggest change between V2 and V3 were his eyes; they were remodeled and only one mesh. The irises gained a gradient, and the pupils now had a brown ring inside them. Mario's orange specular on his shirt and cap would eventually become a reddish-pink, Late V2's skin mat carried over to V3, but would get tanner with the Mario Tennis and Golf renders. For some f------ reason, this render, and ONLY this render of Mario from Super Circuit uses the early V1 hands. I don't know why, it just does.
