Chris Thorndyke being the self-insert character we're supposed to feel sorry for and relate to, despite being wealthy, having a huge mansion, people who take care of his every need, being popular in town and at school, parents who love him more than anything and talk to him on the phone regularly even if they can't be involved in his daily life and feel immense guilt for not being able to spend time with him, and 11 other people in his life he can turn to for support, even in the absence of his parents: "You know, I never had much as a kid. Just loving parents and stability and a mansion. Useless crap like that."
