Average Fan vs. Average Enjoyer - Revenge Bad vs. Revenge Good

I'm firmly on team Revenge is Based, but I'm okay with revenge is bad stories as long as the hero didn't leave a trail of corpses on the way there. Like, it's bad to kill the guy that wronged you but it's perfectly fine to kill everyone that gets in your way? That's so stupid!

Yeah, that game's particular approach (and others like it) ring extremely hollow. As Flowey once said:

"You spared the life of a single person."
"Froggit, Whimsun. Vegetoid, Loox. Migosp, Moldsmal."
"Think about those names."
"Do you think any of those monsters have families?"
"Do you think any of them have friends?"
"Each one could have been someone else's Toriel."
"Selfish brat."
"Somebody is dead because of you."

If you're gonna go for the "Revenge is Bad" aesop, you gotta COMMIT to it all the way through, otherwise you end up looking sella-righterous and hypocritical.
