Actually, denial of history and reality is apparently just a natural part of human psychology, regardless of political and religious beliefs, because owning up to your mistakes is painful so everybody would rather deny it or blame somebody else to take the easy way out.

If you want to improve you need to be able to admit you are wrong and accept criticism. The American Right considers admitting any degree of error to be an sign of weakness and any criticism as being an attack.
