I (M26) work at a corporate law firm where first year associates are expected to knuckle down and basically just grind for a year or so straight. It's a high power, high speed environment, and there isn't any time for trivial side projects or breaks. Enter Ella (fake name). Ella (F26) is a first year like me, except she's Muslim. She literally makes it her whole identity. She wears a head scarf. She takes breaks multiple times a day to "go pray". I've confronted her on this before and she launched into some long winded explanation about how it's her religion. She never attends networking events or happy hours because again, "it's her religion". Another associate asked her the other day why she doesn't drink and again she just started talking about her religion and honestly I was just sick of it.
