Internal filenames that call Luigi "intrusive" and a "busybody", and unused text, suggest that Luigi was originally intended to be annoying the player with persistent begging to switch. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, during World 3, Luigi appears on Starship Mario and announces that he will be waiting in certain galaxies to take over for Mario. In the game's code, these instances of Luigi that ask Mario to switch are called "LuigiIntrusively", which suggests Luigi was supposed to be persistent, stubbom or aggravating in his request to switch places with Mario. While unused variables are common, what makes this notable is that for his appearance in Super Mario Galaxy 2, this was changed to "4" despite remaining unused. The significance of this is unknown.
