The men-at-arms have numbers on their side and years of experience in brutal wars. The men-at-arms kill your party where they stand, then all ride off. What were you thinking? How many years of experience do you have? Surely less than war-hardened veterans. And your numbers? Pathetic. Four or five men cannot stand against the press of twenty while surrounded, let alone cavalrymen in full harness. It is a simple law of battle that you were blind to in your arrogance. Your character foolishly swings a greatsword, trying to cut through steel plate. The blade simply bounces off. Not a single attempt at half-swording at mordhau. What arrogance, thinking that a sword could cut through plate armor. The man-at-arms knows the right weapon for the job. He brings out a war hammer, flips it around to the spike, and drives it into your character's helmet. The spike fails to go through, for the swing was quick and one-handed, but your character is hopeless rattled and left defenseless. The man-at-arms tackles your stunned character to the ground. He easily jams a stiletto into your character's visor. What did you expect would happen, thinking a blade could go through harness? Have you not the slightest whit of knowledge of Harnischfechten? The war hammer spelled the death of the knight more readily than any firearm. So it is that out of the many levied peasants your character charges, one strikes true. One spearhead impales your character's throat. Your character perishes instantly. The crossbowman was a peasant. It was his first time to ever pick up a crossbow. The peasant got lucky. The battle around your character continues. Your character will be forgotten, just another arrogant fool who thought themselves invincible against common threats. What made you think that your character was any more "invincible" than the great warriors and kings of history who died from ignoble and lucky shots? When will you lean that none can be a "hero" when anyone can die from a stray blade, arrow, or bolt from a lucky peasant at the wrong time?
