Parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, after unsuccessful attempts to sell the unprofitable fandom, gaming and comedy entertainment division, is shutting down Rooster Teeth's operations. RT general manager Jordan Levin announced the shutdown of Austin- based Rooster Teeth at an all-hands meeting Wednesday and in a memo distributed to staff. The closure of Rooster Teeth will result in layoffs of its approximately 150 full-time employees and will throw dozens of contractors and content creators out of work as well.

ROOSTER TEETH Hi Y'all, Since I've stepped in as the General Manager of Rooster Teeth, I have not communicated directly with you, our Rooster Teeth audience and community save for an occasional cameo in content. I'm not a founder, nor a content creator. Rather, I joined Rooster Teeth in 2019 because Matt and Burnie trusted me to help steer the company through change. Change that we are still experiencing necessitating some difficult decisions, one of which we want to share with you all today. As the company turned 20 this year a lot of thought was put into what Rooster Teeth is and what we stand for. We started with Red vs. Blue, a passion that turned into the longest-running web series of all time. We expanded with Achievement Hunter, a love for gaming that developed into a revolutionary format, multiple off-shoots and channels. Then, we bloomed with RWBY, a passion that turned into a rich anime universe. The passion encouraged in everyone at this company has allowed us to pioneer what have become many popular formats in the digital entertainment landscape. It has also allowed us to shift and change with the creators' own interests and adapt to the changes in our audience, community, and industry. Recently, you've seen RWBY V9 premiere on Crunchyroll, RTX was revamped, Best Friends Today launched, Stinky Dragon premiered an entirely puppet-created adventure, and Geoff and Gavin came back to gaming, revitalizing Let's Play! More change is coming. Traditionally, the end of the year is when we share an announcement about RTX badge sales and important dates. However, I'm sorry to inform you that we will not be hosting RTX in 2024. We have every intention of resuming RTX in the future and bringing everyone back together.

A: Yes; we seriously have a problem with that. **THIS MIGHT BE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU READ TODAY** We realize that many of you will assume that it is now "ok" to pirate the show because it's on a big media platform and the IP is owned by a big media conglomerate. Let me be clear: PLEASE DON'T PIRATE THE SHOW. Pirating RWBY hurts us in so many ways and has a direct impact on the content and CRWBY. I cannot stress this enough: RWBY lives and dies by how it is monetized by you, our fans. Many folks assume that, given that RT is wholly owned by Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), that we have an endless pool of cash just laying around. You could not be further from the truth. While we are indeed owned by WBD and love being a part of the family, we typically tend to run RT as an independent business within the larger framework of the organization. Contrary to popular belief, we do not receive an annual bucket of money to fund the show. If you care about the show and you want to see future seasons, spinoffs, etc, then please watch the show using legal means. The bigger splash we make on CR, the better the future is for RWBY. Please don't be a jerk. Don't pirate our show.

RoosterTeeth an hour ago - Rooster Teeth Hi everyone, Today, as part of the broader representation and inclusion goals of our company, we are reviewing our content library and removing some videos we no longer feel comfortable hosting on our platforms. We took an honest look at 17+ years of videos, many of them made live and uploaded on a daily basis, and concluded some do not fit the values of Rooster Teeth today and are counterproductive to the work we are striving to do to be more inclusive of all people. We aspire to entertain our existing community while fostering connections with a diverse audience. Any content that doesn't do that doesn't belong on our platform. This review is ongoing; over time we will also edit videos, provide disclaimers where appropriate, and continue to remove content if we so choose. In June we stated #BlackLivesMatter and said we were working on a plan to ensure a more diverse, inclusive and equitable Rooster Teeth. We want to be transparent about what we've accomplished and what we're still working on. Laney Ingram, our Head of Legal & Business Affairs, has expanded her responsibilities to include Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE). She is partnering with Senior HR leader Stephanie O'Connor, who comes to us from Fullscreen. We have also hired an outside DEl consultant, Ingrid Hadley. Together, Laney, Stephanie and Ingrid are laying the groundwork for our DEl strategy and initiatives going forward. We are also working closely with WarnerMedia on all of our DEI strategies and are thankful for their support and the opportunities they open up in this area. This is an ongoing process and this is by no means our last update on the topic of diversity, equity and inclusion.
