Many people will probably bully them for "not testing their upgrades". But the very nature of endpoint protection products means that updates are expected to be delivered in mere hours. What I DO find bad is that so many companies run the same auto-updating binary blob to the point where this company essentially held a kill switch for a decent chunk of the world. Everything is going back to the dark days. During the IBM PC days "Industry standard" meant using proprietary IBM stuff, and everyone else just had to clone that if they wanted any chance. During the 90s and 2000s we were finally moving to "Industry Standards" being actual standards, like having companies host or use various SMTP mail services or SIP voice services. But now that everything is "cloud-based" we're moving back to how it used to be. "Industry Standard" no longer means running products compatible with the same standards that other companies use. Yet again "Industry Standard" means running the same proprietary OS which you install the same proprietary blobs on, which all talk to a central master server controlled by a 3rd party. The crowdstrike situation really shows how stupid it is that rather than running different pieces of hardware and software that speak the same protocol, companies now run basically the exact same things, to the point where one company had a remote detonation switch sitting around.
