The Z-Ring and Z-Crystals were known as the Aura Brace and Aura Prisms Instead of Z-Power, energy from the trainers themselves would be transferred over to the Pokemon.

* Pikipeck & Toucannon were originally unrelated. At some point, the decision was made to make it part of the same family, which led to the creation of Trumbeak.
* A basilisk/plant line pokemon was scrapped. According to its final evo's similarities with Salazze, it was at one point considered as a potential counterpart to her.
* Besides its design already resembling fanart, the other reason the Flying Eeveelution was scrapped was because there wasn't much pressure/need with introducing a newer Eevee evolution by that point.
* Mimikyu getting alternate forms is mentioned here too.
