After watching the 1972 short movie by DePatie-Freleng and some song clips from the 2012 movie, I think I have found the real message of the story, one that applies to both the Lorax AND the Once-ler (though the 2012 movie seems to focus on pure greed IMHO).

Pretty sure it was written by the people who've made the games for years. Yeah, they don't know shit, talking out their ass.
