The portal to the human world only opens for 3 days every 30 moons. The Apple family reunion occurs everv 100 moons Sunset would have had to enter the portal as a 7-8 vear old for her to be in highschool when Twilight confronts her. 30 moons = ~2.5 years 100 moons - 8 vears TUUUUNU Sunset used it before Celestia had accepted Twilight as her student... ...and emerged as a human teenager, despite her true age. WELL WELL THS Applejack: age 10 Apple Bloom: age 2 Applejack: age 18 Apple Bloom: age 10 Age 8 Age 16 Age 18 Sunset has won the Fall Formal 3 times: Freshman, Sophmore and Junior years. The events of Equestria Girls takes place in the character's Senior year. That would place the main characters as 18 vear olds Twilight became Celestia's student shortly after Sunset escaped into the human world She was later sent to Ponvville where she remained for at least 2 years before ascending into an Alicorn princess A ten vear timeframe from student to princess The 10 year old CMC still crash the party, though.

But really the only explanation I can think of for how this would work is time passes slower on the Human side of the mirror portal. So maybe on the pony side 10 years passed while on the human side only a few years passed. Also since the human side is an alternate universes maybe the CMC were just born sooner over there and are only a few years younger than their sisters. /headcanon
