Well not that I'm defending what may clearly become a flame war ridden page. The OP isn't exactly wrong.

Nintendo's "core" titles are all very similar on the surface with lots of minor tweaks and changes over the coarse of the franchises lifetime.

Sony tends to create new IPs per generation quickly uses them and then ends them usually at the end of the generation to start a new. But because they're made within such a relatively short amount very little changes between them. So while Sony may create variety generation to generation, they can potentially lose fans when a franchise is dropped. Though they seemed to have learned their lesson with the PS4 with Uncharted 4 and inFamous Second Son.

I will also add, that this isn't so much a Sony outlook as it is a "Hardcore, Nintendo is for casual babies only!!!!!111!) outlook. Most rational people understand that the companies are different and have their place in the industry.
