The problem with pokemon, and other games like some smash bros is that they aren't MADE for highly competitive players, and you clearly have a lot of unbalanced elements (for exemple, nothing in the game prevent you from getting a team full of legendaries, with broken items on them. That's why dead-serious organisation like Smogon tend to ban everything: they are desperately trying to balance a game that is fundamentaly unbalanced it in the first place. And the general feeling of elitism around those communities (SSBM players) doens't make them friendlier…
