Pokémon - Coincidence?

Now, imagine if that's the beam fired using Xerneas's power. Deoxys could have eternal life.

Or if it was in Y, then it'd… destroy it? It wasn't super clear to me what the weapon does in each version, or what happened after Lysandre fired it at the end.
