X Journalists would make claims of people like Anita Sarkeesian "playing video games all her life" when she openly admitted many times she is not a gamer and only starter recently (when it wasn't for an interview). Various developers trading sex or money for good reviews got exposed, journalists who accepted got exposed. People became a bit more critical about supporting a game just because the developer has a victim complex stating tat their game could have only failed because of sexism, instead of their own poor developing skills. What really sealed the deal was opposition often faking their own harassment. Anita sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn have been caught multiple times screenshotting "harassment" while showing that the harrasser's account name in the login. Or when someone called the police to help Sarkeesian against a "very real threat" she was posting about, only for police to find the harasser's messages were coming from her IP address. Aside from the obvious, of course - disinterest in reaching out to both sides in an effort to get a full and cohesive story, you played into the role of clickbait. You put your ratings above integrity, truth, and neutrality. This copy-paste of a story has worked out well for your competitors, so no wonder you decided to jump in. In the specific case of Grand Theft Auto 5, you leave out a HUGE piece of information there is not a single mission in the game requiring you to either proposition a sex worker OR kill her. In fact, if you DO kill a sex worker, the cops show up roughly 10 seconds later. The sex workers are so important that the cops violate the laws of physics to literally teleport from the police station, and take your weapons and money. But suppose we cant allow pesky facts like that to interfere with your story, right? Or of course, the fact that you can kill men as well Cant claim MISOGYNY if every character is treated equally. Im assuming none of you bothered to play the game prior to coverage in order to make sure your information from a single source (who profits off this very specific portrayal) was correct. Way to go! You've also followed the trend of using the same two voices in order to stress harassment while completely ignoring the repeated threats, harassment, and doxing of those fighting for the key goals in the Gamergate consumer revolt. May ask why? Why does our wellbeing matter so much less than these two people? While most of the harassment towards both sides has been the work of online trolls, I DO believe all threats should be taken seriously.
