Notes:

The State – An estimated 46,000 people marched in downtown Columbia, SC Monday (1/17/2000) protesting the flying of the Confederate flag atop the State House dome. The march and rally, commemorating the life and work of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. , was without any major incidents. The flag has been flying since 1962 when the S.C Legislature raised the flag to celebrate the Civil War centennial. This march is also apparently the one of the largest in South Carolina history.
