Eh to be fair it's not like America's any better when it comes to "fictional portrayals of Greek myths." Remember Disney's Hercules? Oh sure it's commonly considered a classic Disney film, but people in Greece hated it for getting a lot of the mythology wrong. Pocahontas actually evoked a similar reaction from Americans (while the movie was more liked in places like Europe).
Also just how accurate to mythology is God of War? [aka "this non-mythological character named Kratos gets pissed off at the Greek pantheon and wants to kill most of it"]
