It does raise questions about how Peridot is different from the Gems we know. Traditionally, their bodies are nothing more than mental constructs made of light sustained by their gems. If that's the case, then how can you break off a piece of them? My theory is that Peridot employs an entirely mechanical body controlled by her gem. Perhaps she felt that the usual light construct bodies were insufficient and opted to design a superior mechanical one of her own, complete with an array of gadgets.
