I see what you mean, but imo there is a difference between having an event happening in one episode which gets completely ignored in following episodes and getting to know attributes or parts of the past of a character and having that completely ignored.

The latter forms the setting and shouldn't be ignored imo. So if one episode is about squidward having never tried a crabby patty, there shouldn't be another one having a flashback to him eating his first crabby patty when he was younger. But yeah, continuity sure isn't modern spongebobs biggest problem and I can see why ppl don't care at all about it.
