Origin

Roger Chan, a 51-year old unemployed man, and Elvis Ho, a real estate agent 28 years Chan's junior, were complete strangers before the… incident. On April 27, 2006, Ho tapped Chan's shoulder on a Hong Kong bus and Chan flipped the hell out. And, of course, it was all captured on a cellphone camera:

Can't speak Chinese? Enjoy these subtitles:

This tirade spread widely and the video became one of the most popular in May 2006, and now has over 4M video views.

Chan was made into something of a hero to the people of Hong Kong. His frank and honest way of speaking in a town where people don't typically socialize with strangers. It noteworthy that Chan suffers from 'intermittent explosive disorder', AKA 'road rage'

Aftermath

When interviewed Chan said he was calling a suicide helpline but Ho says Chan was just talking to friends. The newspaper Sing Tao Daily wrote that Chan tried to apologize to Ho but was expelled along with the media by Ho who threatened legal action. Chan was also interviewed by NEXT magazine.

But not all good news, Chan was assaulted by three masked men on June 7 2006, if this has any relation to his internet fame is unknown.

the chinese coverage of the incident.

His popualrity has inspired a song,

a rap,

parodies,

even karaoke.

In the end, at least it got people to talk quieter on buses.
