Take It Easy, Globehead, They're Just Flat Earth Memes refers to a series of snowclone memes based on an image of actor and retired professional wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson making a "palm down" gesture. Utilizing Take It Easy, X, They're Just Y snowclone, the memes are often used to ironically mock the opponents of religion, conspiracy theories and other beliefs.

Origin

The exact origin of the meme is unknown. The earliest discovered repost of the image was made by iFunny^[1] user OfficialCAMBAM on July 5th, 2019 and received 14 smiles in one year (shown below).

Spread

Starting in July 2019, the image was widely circulated online; for example, a July 7th repost in /r/okbuddyretard^[2] received over 550 upvotes in six months. A July 11th repost by Twitter^[3] user @conspiraboomers gained over 1,100 retweets and 6,300 likes. An August 30th post in /r/bruhmoment^[4] received over 4,100 upvotes.

On December 25th, 2019, Twitter^[5] user @380kmh reposted the earliest known derivative of the original meme, a Santa Denial joke (shown below). The tweet received over 1,800 retweets and 5,800 likes.

The snowclone format did not have a significant presence online until June 2020, when notable variations of the meme started appearing on iFunny and Reddit. For example, on June 15th, 2020, Redditor^[6] Brassow posted a meme that received over 370 upvotes in /r/Kaiserreich (shown below, left). On August 3rd, iFunny^[7] user Mataplana posted a meme that received over 630 smiles in two days (shown below, right).

Starting in June 2020, the snowclone format saw moderate spread online, being used to mock the opponents of religion, conspiracy theories and other beliefs.
