Not sure if it's some rumor but apparently Anonymous has planned to take down the internet to protest for multiple reason.

I got some information if you're interested
1. link
2. link for full detail

Do not panic
I'm not sure if this is true but, you guys should start looking for IP address of your favourite website to be able to go on the internet during this event (If the event happen, I can't garantee it will occur but prepare yourself. Just in case).

So
What's your opinion about this ?

One does not simply turn the Internet off.

They would have to either destroy a shit-ton of servers IRL, or they are robots.

step 1. hack local network provider (rogers, bell, ect)
step 2. move all listed urls to blacklist
step 3 ???
step 4. profit

Well, Anonymous clearly failed just like all you guys assumed.

Thought it was gonna happen because these guys are excellent hacktivists. But then, you remember Facebook…

Philip J. Fry wrote:

Bullshit. There is no way to shut down the whole Internet. It is literally impossible unless you destroy ever server in existence.

All servers, routers, hotspots, access points, etc.* Which is pretty much the whole world.

It's literally impossible to take down the whole Internet. The Internet was made so it would be impossible for a person or a group of people to take it down. That's one reason that in countries that already have Internet, the government can only limit the Internet and what people have access to.

Also, Anonymous is organized on the Internet, without the Internet, they're screwed. So why on earth would they do that even if it were possible to take down the Internet?

By cutting these off the Internet, nobody will be able to perform a domain name look-up, thus, disabling the HTTP Internet, which is, after all, the most widely used function of the Web. Anybody entering "http://www.google.com"

Google switched to HTTPS by default recently.

Seems to bad to be true. It's also unlike anonymous' personality. They've done some bad stuff, but this would be a insanely huge job, and anyone with common sense would realize the cost of repercussions would far out weigh motives for protest. Then again, does anonymous have common sense. If this actually happens, I'm sure some equally powerful hackers won't be happy and retaliate. In conclusion, get your IP's and proxies, and don't worry.

I hear they announce Facebook will sabotage by the Anonymous last year, but it was fake and troll.
I swear it was trolling AGAIN!

Bullshit.

If so, everyone will turn against them, and they won't be making a point. If they do shut it down permanently, it's just like SOPA, PIPA or ACTA passing.

Yeah, it's also 2:34PM where I am now. The 31st. I'll have to see tomorrow to see what happens. :/

How do you access those from your computer?

Think about it… The day after March 31st… nothing significant on that day, right?

Do you mean how did I get them?
Or how do you use them?

To get them if you are running windows, use the command prompt and type "ping www.site.com" without the quotations. I just put them there for emphasis.
To use them, all you need to do is paste the IP address into your browser.

Sorry for double posting, but I think that everyone is confused as to how Anonymous plans on doing this. They are not taking down the Internet. They are taking down the DNS system. Anonymous thinks that by attacking several key servers in the DNS system, then it will no longer function. Since 95% of people who use the Internet don't understand how it works, they will think that it is gone. In reality though, they simply have no way to find the sites. If you use IP addresses then you should be fine. Thats why I posted the list of them. This is how I interpreted the plan from a post I saw on /b/. I could be completely wrong. Needless to say, I think the next day is going to be interesting.

They did it. They really did it. The internet is gone, and I'm the only survivor. The 2012 predictions were right….

YOU MANIACS. YOU BLEW IT UP! DAMN YOU! GOD DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL.

I dunno bout the whole internet, but just today I noticed that the Activity tab in your profile only shows the activities that aren't comments on images, things like your uploads and comments on meme entries are still there but you get blank pages if you had nothing but comments on images. Weird.

You know, the fact that the message doesn't mention specific times makes it questionable, since without a specific time zone, it would be a rather uncoordinated attack. Still, it would be interesting if it happens.

This pretty much describes it.

As a note: This is why I hate Anonymous.

What do they gain by doing bullshit like this, or even threatening to? It actually gives the government a reason to control and regulate it, so a bunch of jackasses don't ruin everyone's fun.

I don't want to jump into a rant about it, but I think they're starting to get ridiculous. Sure, sending a makeshift lynch mob after somebody that performed animal cruelty is fine, but threatening or joking about performing an actual act of terrorism?

The Reddit one doesn't seem to be working for me.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with this. Anon might be able to take down things like websites and such, but the entire internet? No.

It's Fake

I guess it was bullshit after all like the last time they planned to shut down Facebook. For some reason,I had a doubt this will not happen.Anonymous can shut down some sites, but I don't think they will be able to shut down the entire internet. This is nearly impossible. It will take some week to do it.

This is so uncommon for Anonymous to act that way. They're supposed to represent the internet itself. Not the enemy of the web. That's why I think this is fake.

I just made this thread to share my opinion with the other user on this topic.Sorry for wasting your time guys.Tomorow, I'm gonna request a lock for this thread.
