You can't cut something into 0 pieces, can you?
It's a simple joke spawning from a random ideal.

Oh, yeah, they chose that one because it is something that everyone can recognize. There are plenty of things you can't do in math, but that is the most well known.

I know many anime series reference Schrodinger's cat for some reason. I think it is more of a running physic's joke than a meme.
