I think it's funny how people could come on to KYM and very easily do the same thing to us.
"There's a thread (six, and five threads with 200 pages) where people had several massive posts about fapping to My Little Pony characters?"
"How much time do they spend making articles about funny stuff on the Internet? And for what? The title of 'moderator?'"
"Wait, wait, wait. What's a furry again? And how many of them are on the website?"
"Isn't it weird how people who are in their twenties and thirties are hanging out with people who are in their teens? If not creepy?"
And then we turn around and pick at other people who will very likely grow out of that scene/emo phase while we're still watching anime or playing some MMORPGs. I say this with some experience behind me:
The emo/scene kids in my high school have their steady jobs, their nice degrees from decent colleges, have decent social support networks in addition to professional networks. They grew out of it, like many of these kids will. These were people just going along with the trend at the time. They found out that it didn't suit them when they got older, they changed their clothes, got haircuts, and became mainstream adults.
The anime/MMORPG or online gamer kids are generally broke adults, may or may not have degrees of any sort, and tend to make their way through customer service positions at Wal-Mart and the like. They did not become the engineers or scientists that I would have expected. They chose (or were socially directed) into a subcultural area of adolescent interaction due to various factors, but they never came (or were able to come) out of it.
I'm not saying that any of these are inherently bad. But if I had to choose what I would have liked as a 24-year old objectively, then I'll take odd tastes in music, clothes, and poetry that I'll grow out of over odd tastes in music and liking the same cartoons and games that people half my age play and various other weird tendencies that is a part of Web Culture.
Or more simply, I look at myself, and I don't have any room to pick at anyone else.
Just sayin'. There are implied massive planks in our eyes here, and we're getting jollies from specks from other people's eyes (that will go away in time.)
Oh, well. BACK TO THE NEARLY HYPOCRITICAL INSULTS HM?
On topic, because I call out Know Your Meme. For the same reasons. And before you say "Then why are you here? If it's so bad, then why don't you just leave?"
That's because I like it here. Just like those scene kids and to be Sonic fanboys/girls like what they do.
