these bunny gif emoticons, originally made by a Chinese netizen known as Wangmomo, became really popular in IM chats and discussion boards. Personally, I prefer gif emoticons over still ones.

Yes, specific sets of emoticons are memes. I would hesitate to call Emoticons as a whole a “meme.” Creating a meme entry for specific emoticons is great. But the “emoticons” entry was deadpooled for being too broad.
