A fairly popular photoshop (depending on your definition of photoshop) fad, making fun of the ridiculous advertising campaign of officialquiz.com; a collection of their ads can be found here. While none of the ads I can find explicitly state "Has science gone too far?" many of them use the template of "Is this image real or fake?" The earliest example of the fad that I could find is the Birds with Arms one seen above, which was posted to /r/funny on May 14, 2011.
