Birds With Arms is a photoshop meme in which images of birds are edited to have human arms editing on to their sides where their wings would have been.

Origin

Although bird images have been altered in many different ways in the past, the earliest thread where bird images were exclusively edited with human arms was in a thread on the Reeelapse Forums[1] titled "Post pictures of birds with arms", created on August 11, 2008.

Spread

On February 16th, 2009, the meme was featured in a thread on the Something Awful Forums[2] titled "Photoshop Arms Onto Birds! …Seriously." On May 29th, the single topic blog "Birds With Arms"[4] was launched on the microblogging site Tumblr. On May 4th, 2009, another Tumblr[9] blog "Fuck Yeah Birds With Arms" was launched. On April 27th, 2012, the Internet humor site Sad and Useless[7] published a post titled "Birds With Arms", featuring a compilation of notable examples from the series. On May 9th, the Internet humor site Smosh[8] highlighted several example images in a post titled "21 Pictures of Birds With Arms." On June 27th, the Internet news blog BoingBoing[6] published a post titled "Birds With Human Arms", which linked to the "Birds With Arms" Tumblr.
