The phrase, “2 Girls 1 Cup,” refers to the trailer for the Brazilian fetish film Hungry Bitches made by MFX Media in 2007. The extreme fetishistic nature of the clip as well as the dramatic piano music playing in the background caused it to go viral in late 2007, with many internet users posting their own or others’ reactions to seeing the video for the first time. This phenomenon received significant attention from the media.

As a result, 2girls1cup.com, hosting the most viewed mirror of the trailer, would become one of the most famous shock sites in internet history. The name, “2 Girls 1 Cup” has also been subject to parody, exemplified in shock sites such as 3Guys1Hammer.

Background

Hungry Bitches was created by Brazilian distributor and filmographer, Marco Fiorito (who describes himself as a “compulsive fetishist”), and produced by his company, MFX Media. As Marco Firotio shifted from foot fetish content to coprophagia, he encountered some legal barriers:

Authorities in the United States have branded some of his films as obscene and filed charges against Danilo Croce, a Brazilian lawyer living in Florida, listed as an officer of a company distributing Fiorito’s films in the United States. Croce accepted a plea bargain and was sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation and forfeiture of $98,000.

However, he said in his declaration, “I have already made fetish movies with scat/feces using chocolate instead of feces. Many actors make scat films but they don’t agree to eat feces.”

The video was discovered and posted online in summer of 2007, and the soon-to-be viral website, 2girls1cup.com [defunct] was created on August 12th, 2007 (more information in the “Commercial Success” section).

The Video

While “2 Girls 1 Cup” is something that can only experienced by actually watching the video, here is a brief description of what it contains:

• 2 girls kissing each other
• 1 girl defecating into a plastic cup
• Both girls consuming the excrement and then making out
• 1 girl vomiting into the cup
• Both girls vomiting the excrement into each other’s mouths

The infamous piano music is “Lovers Theme” by Hervé Roy from the 1971 French film, Delusions of Grandeur.

YouTube Phenomenon

“2 Girls 1 Cup” spread through word of mouth, and manifested itself primarily in recordings of people’s reactions to seeing the trailer (some of which become viral in themselves). The first “reaction video” posted on YouTube was supposedly fartenewt’s video, uploaded on September 21, 2007 :

“2 Girls 1 Cup’s” viral success also led internet users to explore even more disturbing shock videos (the most famous of these being “Pain Olympics”), and posting similar reactions to them.

So incase you havent heard the whole 2girls1cup network was sold.
Sale completed last week. I had a fun time working with cojones and hope to do some more projects with him possiblyin the future, he’s a cool and standup guy. I might fly out to see him when I get some time. 2girls1cup and 1girl1pitcher was his and the other two 2girl1finger and 4girlsfingerpaint were mine. I can’t go into how much the site was sold for or to who but I can give you some details of the operation.

All 4 sites were hosted on 1 dual xeon using 200mbit for 3 servers total. I had a round robin dns setup so if a server went down the other two would pick up the slack costing a total of 2500 a month. All the sites could have been on one server and for cheaper but this made it so the sites were up all the time. I was also running openads for some geotargetting of ads.

On August 17, 2010, the man who created 2girls1cup.com on August 12, 2007 posted an AMA thread (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit. He announced the site had 32 million hits in 6 months before he sold it for 6 figures. The article also includes a photo of the contract he signed to sell the site (and three related ones) as proof he was the actual first owner.
