A disgruntled animation student created this short demo reel in 2008:

The author, Colin, was a third year Game Development student at UOIT. This was his final assignment for an Animation Arts class. He made the best animation with what was taught. Seriously, it’s genius.

Andy Baio of Waxy conducted an interview with the creator in 2008

Colin’s Bear Animation is now used to reference poorly 3d animation. The catchphrase “Thanks for Nothing” (as seen in the end of the video) is also popular

The song is “Funky Monkey Dance” from Mother 3

To all those who are wondering, Colin got an A in this course.

For hardcore fans of colin, here’s the long version:

  • BearRoll (9m54 version)

Here’s also some remixes and tributes:

  • Colin’s Giraffe, A Tribute

  • Colin’s Bear Is Fucking Over

  • Colin’s Bear Animation – VA Quickie #
