Gigi Deirdre is an imagined protagonist for a hypothetical fanmade Earthbound in which the player is the reincarnated version of Earthbound villain Giygas. After a tweet proposed the idea of the game in late March 2024, fan artist and Twitter / X user @Nyeh830 drew the reincarnated Giygas as a small, red-headed girl, inspiring others on Twitter to draw their versions of the character.

Origin

On March 24th, 2024, Twitter user @delusionsofvoid^[1] proposed a hypothetical fanmade Earthbound game. The idea read:

Earthbound 2 fangame where you play as a girl named Gigi who’s actually the reincarnation of Giygas. The villains are a human cult who are trying to bring back Giygas because they think their lives were better under corruption and mind control.

Their tweet gained over 80 retweets and 570 likes in two days. Later that day, Twitter user @Nyeh830^[2] drew their idea for the reincarnated Giygas character, giving it the name "Gigi Deirdre" and the appearance of a small, red-headed girl with an orange-striped shirt (shown below). Their tweet gained over 470 retweets and 5,000 likes in two days.

After @Nyeh830 introduced their idea for the character on March 24th, 2024, others on Twitter began drawing their interpretations of "Gigi Deirdre" as fan art spread on the platform.

For example, on March 25th, Twitter user @0retro0^[3] posted art of Gigi meeting Ness, gaining over 180 retweets and 990 likes in one day (shown below, left). On the same day, Twitter user @Imperio36^[4] posted artwork of Gigi with friends, gaining over 19 retweets and 80 likes in one day (shown below, right).
