About
Dangerous Series (Japanese : 危険な○○シリーズ, Kiken na MaruMaru Series) refers to a style of MAD videos that use the audio track "Fight Against an Armed Boss" off the 1996 Nintendo game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars[1] soundtrack.
Origin
"Fight Against an Armed Boss" was written by a Japanese video game composer Yoko Shimomura[2] (shown below, left). Meanwhile, the oldest MAD video was uploaded to the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND) on October 27th, 2007.[3] This video was also a derivative of Futae no Kiwami. But, the first "Dangerous series" video was introduced as part of the IKZO phenomenon on April 26th, 2008, and was titled "Dangerous IKZO"[4] (shown below, right).
Spread
Other MAD creators began including the "Fight Against an Armed Boss" track in videos with the word "Dangerous" in the title. The video that led to a substantial increase in popularity of the series was "Dangerous Enoch", posted to NND on September 7th, 2010.[5]
The video was able to reach a large audience partly due to it's incorporation of the El Shaddai fad. More than 600 of Dangerous Series videos had been posted to NND in its fisrt year[6], and many of them are uploaded to YouTube.[7] In the track of "Dangerous Enoch", most of subsequent "Dangerous series" videos are created with the assumption that viewers will be using NND's auto-replay feature to watch the video continuously.
