The Gendo Pose

The Gendo Pose refers to a series of photoshop parody of Gendo Ikari, a character from the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. The meme revolves around an image of Ikari in a steepling (hands clasped, fingers crossed) pose. Such a pose is not uncommon for an anatagonist such as himself, and is sometimes known as The Abassador Pose.^[1]

The main hallmark of Gendo’s steepling is his scary shiny glasses^[2] which make it extra great.

Although the pose appears in many other series, Photoshops of the Gendo Pose in which Gendo’s hands and glasses have been pasted onto a picture of a person or thing appear on many image-sharing anime forums.
