About

Krusy Krab is Unfair is a memorable quote uttered by the character SpongeBob on the Nickelodeon animated series SpongeBob SquarePants. The phrase has since been used real-life public actions and events.

Origin

On October 12th, 2001, Nickelodeon aided the SpongeBob episode "Squid On Strike" in the United States.[1] In the episode, SpongeBob protests against his employer Mr. Krabs and Krabs' business the Krusty Krab (clip below). He says "Krusty Krab is unfair. Mr. Krabs is in there, standing at the concession plotting his oppression!"



Spread

The earliest available remix was published on December 20th, 2014 by YouTuber hnmv (shown below). The post "Krusty Krab is Unfair!~ Sparta Remix EXTENDED" received more than 17,000 views in five years; however, it's likely that videos predate it on the short form video application Vine.



On June 25th, 2015, Vine[2] user NaturalExample posted a remix of the scene, adding a beat to SpongeBob's protest. Within four years, the post received more than 64,000 loops 985 likes and 200 revines (shown below, left). The following day, Vine[3] user Dis Man Right Here remixed the NaturalExample video, receiving more than 8 million loops, 42,000 likes and 22,000 reviews (shown below, right).



Signs

On September 27th, 2016, Tumblr [4] user halcon24 posted a screenshot from a Fox News broadcast of a person holding a "Krusty Krab is Unfair sign at a political event. The post received more than 127,000 notes in 3 years (shown below).

On May 30th, 2019, Twitter[5] user @iamTannenbaum tweeted, "The #NBAFinals MVP goes to the person in Jurassic Park with the sign that says 'Krusty Krab is unfair.'" They included a photograph of the sign (shown below). Within 24 hours, the tweet received more than 15,000 likes and 4,800 retweets.

That day, HuffPost published an article on the sign.
