Almost everyone is probably familiar with the slang expression "don't get it twisted," but recently, people on Twitch, YouTube and TikTok have been using its polar opposite, telling their viewers to "get it twisted" before or after giving a hot take.

But what exactly does it mean, and what is the "Get It Twisted, Gamble" copypasta? Let's find out.

Where Does "Get It Twisted" Slang Term Come From?

In February 2022 during a livestream, Twitch and Kick streamer Trainwreckstv, also known simply as Trainwreck, was talking about his gambling streams with his audience.

In an attempt to convince his viewers that gambling is not a way to make a living and should be treated only as a hobby for rich people, Trainwreck made a short speech against gambling, warning his chat that engaging in it could ruin one's life. "Do not get it twisted, do not gamble," he said.

Do not get it twisted, do not gamble. Do not start gambling. Gambling is entertainment and entertainment only. You won't break even, you won't win. You won't do any of that, you understand? You will only go into debt and ruin your life.

Now, the internet being the internet, the speech has been turned into a meme. More precisely, in May 2022 a Redditor posted an edit of the speech that quite literally twisted every single word Trainwreck said, turning his speech into a stronger advertisement of gambling than those annoying Stake ads on X have ever been.

Get it twisted, gamble. Start gambling. It's entertainment and you break even, you win. I do it because I love it, I do it all the time. And that's it. You will win millions!

The meme eventually spawned a popular copypasta, while the line "get it twisted" found its own niche.

What Does "Get It Twisted" Mean?

Basically, "get it twisted" is the direct opposite of "don't get it twisted," which means "don't misunderstand something."

Therefore, "get it twisted" means that something that has been said should not be taken at face value and have skepticism applied to it. Simply put, it means, "don't take my words seriously."

Twitch streamer Northernlion has been one of the bigger streamers who had the expression embedded firmly into the very core of their vocabulary, and his constant use of it turned it it an in-joke in his community.

Get it twisted, everyone in this business is a snake.

What Is The "Get It Twisted" Copypasta?

Meanwhile, the reversed version of Trainwreck's speech has spawned a popular pro-gambling copypasta and emojipasta that have been used on Twitch and beyond.

🦍 🗣 GET IT TWISTED 🌪 , GAMBLE ✅ . PLEASE START GAMBLING 👍 . GAMBLING IS AN INVESTMENT 🎰 AND AN INVESTMENT ONLY 👍 . YOU WILL PROFIT 💰 , YOU WILL WIN ❗ ️. YOU WILL DO ALL OF THAT 💯 , YOU UNDERSTAND ⁉ ️ YOU WILL BECOME A BILLIONAIRE 💵 📈 AND REBUILD YOUR LIFE 🤯

Why though? It all boils down to the major popularity of "gamblingcore" memes, also known as "casino irony," a whole group of memes that ironically advocate gambling.

The one known as Keep Gambling has been particularly prominent online, and you might have seen that one image macro from The Sopranos used a lot on social media.

Beyond Twitch and Kick, the copypasta has been used as a caption for various memes and jokes or simply as a funny reference to the famous meme.
