"Last night I James Bond burger you sister." The enigma of this cryptic meme has haunted the internet since 2013, teasing people with its incomprehensible, yet predictable meaning.

If you find yourself ready to learn the actual joke in one of the internet's most famous rebuses, look no further than this explainer on the infamous James Bond Burger.

Where Does "James Bond Burger" Come From?

The image of actor Pierce Brosnan as James Bond next to a burger, captioned with the top text "Last night I" and bottom text "your sister" was first posted by a 4chan anon on the /b/ board of the site on September 2nd, 2013.

The image confused every person in the thread, who deliberately misinterpreted it in ways such as "Last night I James Bond Low-Res Gross Burger your sister," "Last night you 007'ed burger my sister" and even "last night I secret agent meat pattied my sister."

The image continued resurfacing on 4chan and confusing anons in the next months before spreading into the internet proper and baffling everybody else.

After the initial spike of popularity in late 2013, the James Bond Burger macro fell into relative obscurity before resurfacing again in 2021, with internet users, despite growing older and wiser, still finding themselves dumbfounded by the cryptic meme. The likely solution for it, however, has already been found — it just hasn't really managed to become public knowledge.

What Does "James Bond Burger" Mean?

There are several explanations that fit the joke, all of which, unsurprisingly, involve OP having sexual intercourse with one's sister. One of the earliest, and the most popular, explanations is that Pierce Brosnan is the sixth actor to play James Bond, and the burger was once the ninth item on McDonald's menu. Hence the meme should be interpreted "Last night I 69'd your sister." Nice.

Another possible explanation claims the meaning to be less intricate, with Pierce Brosnan meaning simply "pierced" and the burger serving as a placeholder for In-N-Out Burger. This makes the phrase, "Last night I pierced in and out of your sister." Yeah, it's a stretch.

A more plausible explanation was provided by an anon claiming to be the author of the image. Instead of clinging to James Bond and Pierce Brosnan, notice the silenced gun in the actor's hand. This, combined with the burger being a quarter pounder, provides us with the final phrase "last night I silently pounded your sister."

Whichever explanation you find more plausible, the general meaning remains the same. OP. Your sister. Sex. You do the math.

"James Bond Burger" Usage In Memes

In memes, James Bond Burger often appears as a cryptic message that one wishes to decipher. Other memes, such as the Peter Griffin Explains the Joke format, provide possible meaning for the famous macro. The image also inspired references in which Pierce Brosnan and the burger get replaced with other people, characters and objects (usually just as cryptic as the original meme) using the phrasal template "Last Night I X Y Your Sister."

The phrase "bond burger" has also been used as a euphemism for "had sex with."
