What Does 'Retroslop' Mean?

The idea of "retroslop" has been spreading online since as early as January 2025, but its exact origins aren't really clear. That month, one of the earliest known memes to reference the idea was posted to Reddit. It's a starter pack meme about "retro bait slop" Roblox games, which specifically mentions avatars dressed in a way that misrepresents the true retro aesthetic.

In late May, the term started to become increasingly popularized in Roblox communities as a way of criticizing players with avatars that badly mix retro Roblox aesthetics and items with more modern aesthetics and items. Retroslop avatars are often depicted as boxy, overwhelmingly decorated avatars.
