Resolver, the Spanish word for "solver" or "problem solver," recently became a viral topic on the internet after a trend blossomed in early December 2023 on Twitter / X about men's ability to solve everyday problems without the need for help from women.

This ongoing debate between men and women about expectations in a relationship provoked many jokes and memes to be shared on social media. We are to explain how the word "Resolver" was turned into a meme.

Where Does The 'Resolver' Meme Come From?

It all started when X user @_____xemi decided to share some recommendations on what women should look for in a man to be happy and have a healthy relationship. Her tweet (shown below), which amassed over 39,000 likes and 11,000 retweets in a month, is translated as "fall in love with a man who has high goals, who is neat, smells rich, hard-working and above all, who RESOLVES."

How Did The Word 'Resolver' Became A Meme?

Not long after @_____xemi's tweet went viral, her post was flooded with comments from confused men not knowing what she meant by "RESUELVA" (figured it out) at the end of her post. In short, the "Resolver" meme refers to a man who takes the initiative or assumes responsibility within the relationship to solve a problem.

The "Resolver" trend is not necessarily related to a specific problem to be solved, but women expressing their desire to have a person by their side who supports them and is present in difficult moments.

For instance, on December 7th, 2023, Instagram page @guarromantico_ posted a meme where a boyfriend asks his girlfriend, "What do you want me to solve?" and she says "Just solve it!" The post gathered over 63,000 likes in a week (seen below, left). On December 9th, 2023, Instagram page @imemeflix posted a meme following the trend as well, gathering over 26,000 likes in five days (seen below, right).

What Does 'Resolver' Mean?

The word "resolver" is used for a person who anticipates by providing a solution to a problem. This trend specifically, the word generally is used in a couple of contexts in which "solving" means being aware of your partner's needs.
