Wenomechainsama meme explained.

What The Heck Is 'Wenomechainsama?' Here's An Explainer On The Misheard Lyric Meme

If you've seen the word Wenomechainsama over the past year and have been completely confused as to its meaning, you're not alone. Upon hearing that the teens were doing some sort of meme with the word "Wenomechainsama," you might've assumed it had something to do with the manga and upcoming anime Chainsaw Man.

That is not the case, however, and the truth is much simpler. That's because "Wenomechainsama" is a meme you need to hear rather than read. If you've been confused about Wenomechainsama up til this point, worry no longer, because here's essentially the entire meme summarized in 13 seconds:

Yes, Wenomechainsama is simply a grave mishearing of the lyric "When I met you in the summer" from Calvin Harris' song "Summer" that's part of the budding misheard song lyric speech bubble memes. Now, we can't necessarily explain why this became a popular meme (sometimes the internet gets an ironic joke and just runs with it), but we can explain how.

Where Did "Wenomechainsama" Come From?

Wenomechainsama is an original meme from Instagram memer dank.__.growlithe, who translated the lyrics of the chorus from Calvin Harris' "Summer" very badly in a June 2021 post.

From there, the meme evolved to mostly feature silly pictures of animals reading the lyrics. This was due in large part to a TikTok from Leo_Zeta that had a hamster reading the lyrics. That video was extended by YouTuber dangerousvirus.mp4, and thus, the union of Wenomechainsama and silly animals was solidified.

How Can I Use "Wenomechainsama?"

As outlined above, if you simply caption a funny picture of an animal with the Wenomechainsama lyrics and apply that to a bootleg recording of Calvin Harris' "Summer," you're golden. However, at this point, the meme is evolving further to include other lyrics from the actual song (see Turi Ip Ip Ip) or to make similar memes using other songs (see Napoli Juve Aperol, which is a take on Rag'n'bone Man's "Human").

To stay with the times, it's likely best to use one of those more recent memes or make up a new meme in the genre by butchering the lyrics to a bland radio hit (Imagine Dragons comes to mind).
