Incel groups online have been using the term "femoid" for quite some time now. Given its prefix and suffix, many can infer its meaning. However, the derogatory slang term has an interesting history that many don't know.

On 4chan, Reddit and many other forums where incels gather, "femoid" is used en masse to identify women that these men find repulsive, not for their appearances, but rather, for their allegedly vapid personalities.

What Does 'Femoid' Mean?

A "femoid" is a derogatory slang term that labels a woman as an unintelligent being, likening her everyday functioning, personalities and taste in men to a robot's. The average femoid's "simplicity" is seen as robotic because incels believe that they're programmed to think in a routine manner aimed at reproduction only with Chads.

To paint a better visual, imagine a woman who is absolutely gorgeous but she only dates men who are attractive and rich. Her limited criteria is seen as a way for her to shamelessly social climb. Her imagined thought process is comparable to an android's, hence the combination "fem-oid."

Where Did The Term 'Femoid' Come From?

As you might have guessed, the first to coin the term "femoid" was a Redditor on the infamous /r/Incels subreddit. It happened in April 2017 with a post reading, "Females don't have personalities." The Redditor proclaimed in the post, "I know one femoid organism…" and went on to say some increasingly misogynistic jargon.

'Femoid's' Usage In Memes

After the term was coined, many incel groups across the web used the term with female imagery. They most often painted a scenario in a 4chan greentext in which a "femoid" did something they believe to be absurdly vapid.

However, as time went on, "femoid" was adopted by other online meme circles that made fun of incels and their use of the term. Similarly to how "femcel" was adopted by girlboss meme pages, "femoid" was added to the Impact font captions of multiple ironic variants.
