About

Femoid is a derogatory slang term used by incel groups online to refer to women by labeling them as unintelligent based on their everyday functioning, personalities and taste in men being perceived as similar to a robot's, as in, they're programmed to think in a routine manner aimed at reproduction with Chads. Femoid is a portmanteau of the words "female" and "android." It first surfaced within online discourse in 2017, highly prevalent on incel subreddits, forums and 4chan boards. The term was seen as controversial by mainstream outsiders and criticized on feminism and anti-incel forums such as /r/IncelTears.

Origin

On April 1st, 2017, the term "femoid" was first coined by a since-deleted Redditor in the /r/Incels^[1] subreddit. The post received 10 upvotes and 14 comments in five months and started with the sentence "Females don't have personalities" (shown below).

I know one femoid organism who has diagnosed autism and had literally no interests outside playing insipid Xanga games. Talks in a monotone, long awkward pauses where her brain seems to be on idle, etc.

This makes me fucking furious. Normshits are always saying to improve your personality – what bullshit! A female have the personality of a vegetable and still get laid, get married, have kids, etc.

As a matter of fact, most FHOs have only the most basic pumpkin spice latte of personalities. No deep interests, no passions, no unique take on life, no strong ambitions other than the most generic normie shit (money/house/kids/travel). They can still get a boyfriend at the drop of a hat.

This includes the "nerdy" "gamer girl" "feminist activist" "kinky" "polyamorous" pussy equipped redditwhores who post here. They dont have any original instrinsic personality, they have a bunch of cliques they identify with. No real depth, substance, originality or thought put into it.

Females are garbage.

A few days later on April 8th, 2017, an anon started a thread on 4chan's /pol/ ^[2] board that led with, "Sub chad looks = nightmare mode," and included sentences that used "femoid" in context, such as, "Behold: While Chad is having females chase him, beg to be with him, and fight over him, you're having to bow and scrape just to be allowed to peacefully coexist alongside femoids" (shown below). The thread received numerous replies with other anons also using "femoid."

The less attractive you are, the more shit you have to put up with. That's just how it works.

Just lol at actually attempting to pursue a female under these conditions. If a femoid thinks you are beneath her attractiveness-wise then her default state is to be pissed off/disappointed. She'll be hyper vigilant, constantly looking for flaws, constantly judging, constantly forcing you to prove your worthiness to be permitted to date her. You'll have to be a cucked out provider who gives her the world, asking nothing in return, having all the acceptable views and habits … just to meet her bare minimum requirements for not rejecting you.

Meanwhile, Chad just gives her regular servings of Chadcock, and she worships him for it. Overlooks all his flaws, gives him better treatment than you will ever receive, forgives him when he fucks her girlfriends… everything's easy mode when your name is Chad J. Thundercock.

The fuck is even the point of trying to get a girlfriend when you have to face this kind of monumental uphill battle? Is love even worth it if you have to purchase it with good boy points, all the while knowing that previous Chads have fucked yo girl with a minimum of fuss, and gotten the best out of her, while you're left with the shit end of the stick? I can't deal with this knowledge.

"Femoid" became frequently used across 4chan's various imageboards such as /sp/^[3] and /tv/.^[4] On April 11th, 2017, a since-deleted Redditor asked /r/OutOfTheLoop, "What is a femoid/femoloid?"^[5]

On November 1st, 2017, U.K.-based publication The Times published an article^[6] titled, "Alt-right has a word for its own ideology: wrongthink," and the writer, Neil Johnston," defined multiple, what he proclaimed, alt-right slang terms used online. One of the terms he defined was "Femoid" and he wrote, "Term to describe women as androids or sub-human." Later on November 1st, 2017, an anon on 4chan's /pol/^[7] board shared a photo of Johnston's article headline, captioning it, "The normies are onto us" (shown below).

Criticism

By 2018, "femoid" had become so prevalent on 4chan and Reddit that it also generated criticism levied towards incel misogyny in general. For instance, on November 8th, 2018, an anon on /pol/^[8] started a thread that made fun of incel slang, including femoid (shown below).

Femoids on /r/IncelTears

On July 7th, 2017, Redditor caspertruth666 shared a screenshot from /r/Incels to /r/IncelTears^[9] that accused /r/IncelTears Redditors of being "fakecels" that infiltrated their subreddit and trolled them (shown below). Redditor caspertruth666 captioned the screenshot, "Warning for femoid lurkers," being the first use of the term on the subreddit.

Other subjectively cringy screenshots from /r/Incel were shared to /r/IncelTears, like one posted to /r/IncelTears^[10] on September 20th, 2017, reading, "Why did the Femoid Cross the Road?" (shown below).

Further Spread

On November 22nd, 2019, the term was first added to Urban Dictionary ^[11] by the user Avengerq, gaining over 970 likes in three years.

Femcel is a slang term that defines the female version of an incel. It was first used by female internet users in a Yahoo! group in 2004. In 2012, the term was used on Reddit within multiple subreddits, many of which were satire and run by incel groups who believed being a femcel was not possible. Going into the 2020s, the term was used en masse on platforms like Twitter, TikTok and Instagram, mostly by female meme creators who romanticized the concept in memes.
